About Us

There is no need for prior experience to join our group, however for those new to rowing we will give instruction and advice helping you to learn the basics, allowing you to join our rows building confidence along the way.

We row all year round for fun, exercise and to enjoy the delights of Bristol’s floating harbour.

Each row lasts approximately 90 mins on Bristol’s floating harbour. BCSR currently row on 3 weekday evenings, and daytime on two days. We also row Weekend mornings at 8am. (Specific times and days may change with seasons and are clearly outlined in our sign-on software)

Occasionally we run one-off social rowing or rowing practice events which are advertised in advance for members to join if they desire

We push off from “The Cottage Inn”/ Underfall Yard end of the floating harbour (www.cottage.butcombe.com).

We are located close to Baltic Wharf and the Harbour Master’s Office.

As at April 2024, we maintain two boats for rowing use – “Egret” and “Jolly Roger”. Photos on the site may also show our older boat “Cabot”, which was the original BCSR vessel, sadly now retired.

Please note: Our boat “Egret” is a four-person “Seine style” rowing vessel. “Egret” is designed as a training vessel and is very stable on the water. However, we can provide a flotation jacket for you to use, if you would be more comfortable.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept rowers under the age of 18 years at this time.

The club runs largely through the good will and the grace and favour of our members and the harbour community. This means we are fortunate enough to maintain our club fees at a minimum, which cover our insurances, basic maintenance and investment.
